Ken Boedecker, of the Wright Aeronautical Company, had warned that Phillips 66 fuel could cause a Wright Whirlwind J-5 engine to overheat, if used at full throttle, and this may have caused the damage to the engine. After the air race, the airplane was sold to Erin Greenleaf and Dan Sauder of Kansas.
